Frequently asked questions

What is pelvic health therapy and who is it for?

Pelvic health therapy focuses on the muscles, tissues, and joints in and around the pelvis. These areas play a crucial role in bladder and bowel function, sexual health, core stability, and overall well-being. Therapy addresses issues like pain, weakness, or dysfunction in the pelvic region, helping you feel strong, confident, and in control of your body.

It’s for anyone experiencing pelvic floor concerns—like leaking, prolapse, pain, or diastasis recti—or those looking to prevent them. This includes:

- Pregnant women preparing for childbirth
- Postpartum women recovering after delivery
- Women experiencing changes due to menopause
- Athletes managing pelvic pressure or core weakness
- Anyone dealing with pelvic pain or dysfunction, no matter the stage of life

Do I have to be pregnant or postpartum to see you?

Not at all! I work with women of all ages and stages of life. Fun fact- my oldest client was 96!

What can I expect during my first appointment?

Our initial assessments starts with a conversation about your symptoms, goals, and lifestyle. I’ll then assess your posture, movement, and pelvic floor function, which often includes an internal assessment if you’re comfortable with that. Then we’ll work together on exercises, strategies, and lifestyle changes to improve your symptoms.

What is an internal pelvic assessment?

An internal pelvic assessment is a thorough, hands-on evaluation of the pelvic floor muscles. It involves assessing the strength, flexibility, coordination, and overall function of these muscles. This is done through a vaginal or rectal exam, depending on your symptoms and comfort level. This is done with just my gloved index finger. A speculum is not needed.

The assessment helps identify issues like muscle tightness, weakness, or imbalances that may be contributing to symptoms like leaking, prolapse, pain, or pressure. It’s a valuable tool in creating a personalized treatment plan to address your specific concerns.

If you’re not comfortable with an internal assessment, that’s completely okay! We can use external assessments and other tools to help address your symptoms effectively.

Will you only focus on my pelvic floor muscles?

Definitely not! Your pelvic floor is part of a bigger system, so we’ll also address factors like whole body strength, posture, and breathing.

How soon after giving brith should I start therapy?

As soon as you feel ready. We won’t be doing any internal treatment or c-section scar mobilization until you’ve been cleared by your OBGYN at your 6 week check-up, but there are MANY things we can do prior to that.

What types of techniques do you use in therapy?

I use a variety of evidence-based techniques to address your unique needs and help you feel your best. These include manual therapy or massage, cupping therapy, exercise and movement training, breath-work and hypopressives, and dry needling (coming soon).

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not bill insurance directly. However, you can pay for your sessions using HSA or FSA funds if you’d like, and I’ll provide you with a superbill—a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

One reason I choose not to work directly with insurance is that it often limits the type and amount of care I can provide. Insurance restrictions can create unnecessary barriers to effective treatment, such as capping the number of sessions or excluding certain techniques. By operating as a cash-pay provider, I’m able to offer a truly personalized, comprehensive approach to your care—free from the constraints of insurance policies.

This means more time spent on you and a plan of care designed specifically for your goals and needs, not an insurance company’s checklist.

Do I need a doctor’s referral to see you?

Colorado is a direct access state, meaning that you do not need a doctor’s referral.

How long does it take to see results?

Every body is different, but most clients notice improvements within a few sessions. Long-term results depend on consistency with exercises and lifestyle changes, and I’ll be here to guide you every step of the way.
